What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information we have received since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. Surveys were sent to service users. Information we have about how the service manages complaints. The previous inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last twelve months. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service was judged as a 2* Good service at the key inspection of the 2nd December 2008. The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. Again this document was informative, however, the manager must provide all the information as required. The key standards that are highlighted in Bold must be answered fully, for example, there was no information in regard to the pre-admission procedures, care plans or residents input to their care plans, Complaints policy or Safeguarding Policy and training or staff recruitment. This was discussed with the manager during a telephone conversation on the 24th November 2009. The AQAA informs that sixty percent of the permanent staff hold the minimum of an NVQ level 2 and above. Two members of staff have completed their NVQ level 3 this year. The AQAA also informs that all residents living at the home are Christian Scientists, and Equality and Diversity is fundamental to the teachings of Christian Science which permeates the ethos and governance of the service. Staff show respect for residents privacy. There is an activity co-ordinator who talks to residents to explore their interests and hobbies, and to include their ideas into the activity programme. The service is hoping to include more outings for residents. Visitors are welcomed at the home and residents can choose to see their visitors in the privacy of their bedrooms or in the communal rooms. The service has not received any Safeguarding issues or complaints since the last key inspection. The home is a well-maintained, warm, clean and safe environment for residents. The curved radiators and hot water pipes identified as hazards at the last key inspection have been covered. The manager has written that the staffing ratios for the service are fit for purpose, and staff are trained and mentored in their roles. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Completed surveys were received from four residents and six staff. No issues were identified in the resident surveys. Staff surveys informed that the service puts the needs of residents as a priority, they provide staff the training they require and they provide loving care. The manager told us during our telephone conversation that the two requirements made at the last key inspection have been completed. The covers for the curved radiators had to be made from order, and the radiators in the empty rooms are in the process of being completed. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since the last key inspection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 2nd December 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
