Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organizations. What other people have told us about the service including responses to a CQC satisfaction survey completed by residents, staff, social care professionals and health care professionals. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what improvements they need to make. Responses by staff social care professionals, health care professionals and residents our satisfaction survey was positive. Staff told us: Prior to be employed criminal record bureau checks and references were carried out, they received a good induction and training, are well supported and are aware of the procedures to follow should they suspect any residents is being abused. Residents told us: They receive all the care and support they need, staff were available when they needed them, staff listened and acted on what they said, they received all the medical care they needed, liked the meals, new how and to whom to make a complain and lives in a clean and fresh environment. Comments received included: Provides a warm and caring environment. Lovely staff I am very happy here. We want for nothing. Health and social care professionals told us: The right service for individuals is planned, residents health and social care needs are monitored, residents are supported in managing their own medication, residents live the life they choose, the service responds to the diverse needs of residents and staff are trained and have the correct skills. The home takes issues of equality and diversity very seriously. In their AQAA the home told us We do the following to ensure that race, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief are promoted and incorporated into what we do; Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 The Foundations Philosophy clearly values the concepts of Equality and Diversity and this ethos is to be found in The Service Users guide, Induction Programme for Staff. With regard to recruitment there is a Foundation Policy for Equal Opportunities and Diversity. The ratio of staff who has achieved the NVQ Award is 80 and Equality and Diversity is a mandatory module for this award.Regular Church services for COE take place and visits from the Roman Catholic priest is arranged if requested by the resident. We would arrange for visits from other religious groups when needed. Carrying out a detailed pre admission assessment on all new residents and care plans that are Resident Centered will ensure that these values are upheld. Race: We provided residents with a choice of food that fits in with their cultural food preferences. The catering dept promotes festivals and parties relevant to different cultures for e.g. St. Patricks Day, Halloween. Disability: We promote maintenance of independence by providing staff with training on different conditions such as Parkinsons Disease, Strokes. This also promotes a better understanding of the residents needs. Age: We recognize the value of contributions our residents can made to the community of the Home. this year 50 of our staff have completed a distance learning module for equality and diversity.Training is ongoing and incorporates concepts of diversity issues which includes abuse awareness; person centred care as well as the delivery in specific training on equality and diversity. In their AQAA we were told as part of their programme of continuous improvement the home intends to: 1. Continue the principles of Mental Capacity Act and incorporate the approach into the care plans of each resident. 2. Continue to participate in the Cleanyourhands campaign and maintain constant awareness of hand hygiene 4. Training: Motivate all care staff to complete the following long distance modules: Dementia, MRSA, and Diversity 5. We have gained registration for the Gold Service Framework incorporating the Liverpool Care Pathways, which will further improve and develop the standards of care to our residents 6. The admission/care planning process needs more involvement between care staff and residents/relatives and activities should be viewed as an integral part of total care. Case discussions between the care staff and relatives will be planned on a regular basis to improve holistic care. The home has shown that they have managed issues well. No complaints have been received by CSCI the previous regulator or CQC since the last inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for people who use the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 28th November 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
