Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last Key Inspection (KI) 11/01/09. This included the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. We sent surveys to ten service users, ten relatives, ten staff, six health and social care professionals and six care managers. The following were returned, seven staff, six relative/advocate and four health and social care professionals. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We considered the previous Key Inspection. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It had been completed fully and was very informative. The AQAA states that thirteen service users have been admitted since the last KI, bringing the total number of service users to thirty six. One person was admitted on a short term basis for intermediate care and two service users were discharged. Individual care plans are discussed and reviewed with service users involvement and relatives are encouraged to be involved. The service hasnt received any complaints. No safeguarding referral has been made, or investigations taken place. All policies and procedures have been reviewed. All seventeen staff have achieved, or are undertaking National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) 2 or above. The service has identified in their AQAA the following areas that have improved; all care plans have been revised. Replaced double glazing where needed. In the process of upgrading fire doors in the Annexe building. Tightening up on security measures by having key pads fitted on all main doors and generally working towards our ongoing maintenance programm. The service has identified in their AQAA the following areas for improvement; looking to introduce raised flower beds so that the more active service user can participate in outside/gardening activities. Whilst all staff have been trained with regard to the Mental Capacity Act/ Deprivation of Liberty, (DoLS) this training is ongoing. Continue to encourage service users and their representatives to become more involved in the reviewing of care plans. Each relative who responded to our survey agreed the service provided enough information about the home before their relative moved in, which enabled them to decide if it was the right place for them. All four health and social care professionals who responded to our survey agreed the service gathers accurate information to ensure the right service is planned for people. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 All relatives who responded to our survey agreed that the service meets their relatives needs and responds to the different needs of individuals living there. Four health and social care professionals also agreed and stated that the service seeks advice and acts upon the advice given to improve individuals well being, and respects peoples privacy and dignity. All staff who responded to our survey agreed to a CRB and references being carried out before they started work. Relatives agreed the service keeps the up to date with important issues effecting their relative and they all agreed to knowing what to do if someone has concerns about the home, and the service has responded appropriately when concerns have been raised. All health and social care professionals agreed and stated that the manager and staff have the right skills and experience to support peoples social and healthcare needs. All relatives who responded to our survey stated the home is always clean and fresh. When asked if there are enough staff to meet individuals needs, five staff ticked always and two usually. All ticked always to feeling they have the right support, experience and knowledge to meeting the different needs of people. Each relative agreed. All staff ticked very well to induction covering everything they needed to know, and all agreed they have been given enough training that is relevant to their role and helps them to understand individuals needs, and keeps them up to date with new ways of working. The majority of staff surveyed stated that the manager meets with them regularly to discuss how they are working. The following comments were made when asked what the home does well:Delicious food, activities are good, warm atmosphere, liaise with GPs and district nurses. The staff are welcoming and helpful. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 11 January 2011.
