Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The Old Rectory was made a 2 star, good service during its last key inspection on 10th June 2008 and this is its first annual service review. We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection, this included: Information given to us in the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living in the home. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have been told about how the service has managed any complaints it has had since the last inspection. What the home has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The information given to us by the manager when we spoke to them on the phone. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we may have made to the service in the last 12 months. Any relevant information given to us by other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was very clear and gave us all the information we asked for in a detailed and thoughtful manner. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We spoke to the manager on the phone and she told us what had been happening at the home since we last visited. She told us that the home is just finishing work on improving one of the bedrooms, en-suit facilities have been included and the room has been decorated and refurbished. Preparations have been made to upgrade one of the bathrooms that has not be in use for a while, a new step-in bath will be fitted to enable people to use the facility independently if they want to. The manager also told us that people are able to get out of the home more often now that she has arranged for them to be given travel vouchers instead of a bus passes. The home have a list of local taxi firms that will accept the vouchers. This has enabled Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 several people to go to a day centre, where they can meet friends, take part in activities and are given lunch. The AQAA says that two newly appointed activities coordinators use the homes mini bus to take people out to enjoy local facilities and to visit places of interest. They also arrange in-house activities. We were also told that the home follows the ethos of taking an individualised approach to activities and that they have recently purchased a Nintendo Wii and a laptop computer, which has extra large letters on the keyboard, for people to use and both have been received positively. Family and friends of people living in the home have got together to organise a Friends of the Old Rectory association, which meets regularly in the home and carries out fund raising activities to benefit people living there. There were no requirements made during the previous inspection and we have not had any complaints made directly to us regarding this home in the last year. The home have have received one complaint and the manager told us how she managed it, we feel that it was handled in line with the services complaints policy and procedures. We were told that the person who made the complaint was happy with the outcome. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 11th June 2010. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
