What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment tool that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection that was carried out by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (now the Care Quality Commission) on 27th October 2008. What has this told us about the service? The homes self assessment, completed by the proprietor told us that, at Castle View we provide a secure and family atmosphere with qualified assistance for our elderly residents. The home is registered to support four older people. There are three people currently living at the home. When we last visited the home we found that Each person has a care plan that details the individual care needs and the action needed to reduce any risks or anxieties that people may experience from time to time. And also that The home is well maintained and provides a safe and comfortable environment in which to live. People living at the home reported that they were very satisfied with all aspects of life at the home and had no complaints. We also found that all areas of the home were spotlessly clean and the people responsible for the household cleaning must be commended on maintaining such high standards. The homes AQAA suggests that these high standards are being maintained. The AQAA, although very brief suggests that people are receiving an individualised service based around their recorded care and support needs. However we did not receive any comments back from people who live at the home, relatives, staff or health or social care professionals to enable us to judge that this remains the view of others who either receive a service, or visit the home in other capacities. The only comment we have received within the last twelve months was in relation to activities at the home. A social care professional felt that there could be more. The proprietor reports in the AQAA that Residents appear, on the whole to be satisfied with their lifestyle. And makes a suggestion that the home could find residents preferences and act upon them. This comment suggests that the proprietor is aware of the need to continually monitor peoples wishes and preferences in order to provide activities that people enjoy. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Throughout the AQAA the proprietor indicates that the home continues to offer an individualised service to the people who live at Castle View and did not have many suggestions to further improve the service . However he did said that he continually monitors the service and improve any aspect of the business whenever it appears in need of altering. This suggests that people who live at Castle View will continue to have their needs and wishes met at the home enabling them to lead the life they chose as their needs and preferences change. The homes AQAA suggests that there have been no complaints made to the home within the last twelve months. This again suggests that people are satisfied with the quality of the service that is on offer at Castle View. We have received no notifications of any events that have taken place within the home in relation to the health and wellbeing of people living at Castle View. This suggests that people are safe and well at the home. This limited information suggests that the home continues to offer an excellent service with the proprietor confident that the quality of the service is of a high standard and will continue to be. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 27th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
