Often they haven`t been well. They need a period of reflective Bible study and physical nursing care before they can return home or move on to somewhere else. The property was purpose built in 1988. The accommodation for patients is on the ground floor. There is a training suite and some accommodation for Christian Science nurses on the first floor. When the Service is full, one of the bedrooms can be shared by two patients. All of the other bedrooms are for single occupancy. Each bedroom has got a private bathroom that has a toilet, shower and wash hand basin. There is a call bell system. There are call points in each of the bathrooms and toilets as well as in all of the bedrooms. This means that patients can ring for assistance. Each bedroom also has a telephone. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home returned the annual quality assessment (AQAA). It identified areas that have improved in the last year, and others where further developments are either planned or would benefit residents. This included evidence that the service seeks the views of residents and other stakeholders. The home was last inspected in February 2009. It was given a quality rating of two star good. This means that people who live at the home experience good quality outcomes. The last report was very positive and no requirements or recommendations were made. Residents were positive about the service they were receiving, with positive comments also from relatives and other stakeholders. Information in the AQAA demonstrated that the home has continued to provide an good service to residents, and indicated a range of areas where improvements have been made in the last year, in particular they have reviewed and updated risk assessment protocols. This means that residents have risk assessments which are individual to their needs, and they provide good information about the risk and support need. The home has also continued to ensure staff are appropriately trained, and that all their policies and procedures reviewed and up to date. The management team has actively been raising awareness of the home by giving talks to church care committees and the Christian Scientist community. There is evidence from the AQAA that the service is continuing to look at ways of improving what they do to ensure good outcomes for those receiving a service, and for Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 prospective service users. For example, providing training to churches and committee members to help them to care for family and friends. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? There will be no change to the inspection plan, and the Commission will do a key inspection by the 27th February 2012. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
