What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included The annual quality assurance assessment AQAA that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The agency sent us their annual quality assurance assessment AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the agency is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Since the last inspection the agency has made the following improvements to its services The staff have become more familiar with the new pre assessment form. Its contents are discussed and information shared to provide holistic care. The night staff have been more involved with care plan documentation so that the home gets a better overview of the needs of the user. More staff have a better awareness of the use of the Liverpool Care Pathways in the home to improve end of life care. The home has a new GP who visits the home. The menu has been improved to incorporate new 5 a day guidance. Residents are encouraged to eat independently whenever possible to maintain their life skills and independence. There are more varied activities on offer at the home. Activities focus on the interests of residents. There are plans to purchase a budgerigar for residents to pet. There is a new in house POVA trainer who cascades training to staff at appropriate times. Staff have become more pro active about complaint reporting. There have been various environmental improvements including new carpets, voiles for Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 bedrooms, new washing machines, new bedroom furniture for some rooms, new garden furniture and bird table have been purchased. There are plans to change the lighting in the lounge. There have been additional health and safety audits and infection control measures are improved. The home has identified a link nurse who is responsible for infection control. There are plans to introduce link nurses in end of life care, nutrition and pressure care management to improve practice in these areas. The home has continued to update its policies and procedures in line with good practice. The agency continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 28th October 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
