Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included the annual quality assurance assessment, AQAA, that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home returned the AQAA and it contains the information we requested. Surveys were returned by 7 residents, 5 staff and 3 health and social care professionals. Some of the residents were given help from staff to complete the forms. It would have been preferable if the assistance was from an independent source. Residents say that they received enough information about the home before moving in and this helped them decide if it was the right place for them. Each person who completed a survey says that they receive the care and support they need and that medical help is also provided. The 3 surveys from health care professionals say that the homes assessment arrangements ensure that accurate information is gathered and that the right service is plannned for residents. The home is also said to meet the health care needs of the residents and that advice is sought regarding health and social care needs. The following comment was made: Chesterholm Lodges care staff and manager offer individualised, person-centred care. They do their utmost to provide individualised care and work hard to accommodate the needs of all for whom they care. Another health care professional said, Chesterholm Lodge is a very friendly, homely placement that cares very much for its residents and staff do all they can to accommodate clients and their needs, promoting choice, independence and respecting dignity. Communication from the mamager and staff at Chesterholm is always excellent, and the residents are happy, always look well cared for and settled. Staff say that the home meets the care needs of the residents. Health care professionals also state that the home respects residents privacy and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 dignity and that people are supported to live the life they choose. The AQAA states that a range of activities are provided including complimentary therapies and trips out using a mini bus. Each person who returned a surveys says that the home arranges activities that they can take part in. Residents say that there is someone available to speak to on an informal basis if they are not happy and that they are aware of the homes complaints procedure. The AQAA states that there have been no complaints in the last 12 months. Staff state that there are enough staff to meet residents needs and residents confirm that staff are available when needed. Staff confirm that they received an induction when they started work and that this helped prepare them for the job. The AQAA and staff surveys report that training courses are available to staff including National Vocational Qualifications level 2 and 3 in care. Health care professionals say that the homes staff and managers have the right skills and experience to support peoples social and health care needs. The home is also said to respond to the diverse needs of individuals. Staff say that they receive support from the homes management and that they have meetings to discuss their work. The AQAA states that there is a maintenance programme for the homes environment, which is well maintained and clean. Three staff said that they would like to have a staff room for breaks and 2 staff said that the bedroom furnishings could be more co ordinated. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 29/10/2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
