Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last inspection. This included:The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the home. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for the people who use this service. Information we have about how the service may have managed any complaints. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits we may have made to the service in the last twelve months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service returned the AQAA when we asked for it. It identified areas that have improved in the last year and others where further developments are planned. The AQAA gave us good evidence that the service seeks the views of the people who use this service and other stakeholders. The home has sound quality assurance systems in place. There are regular meetings for the people who use this service. These meetings are recorded and the minutes circulated to all residents. The AQAA told us that the residents are involved in every aspect of life in the home, including the being involved at each stage of the recruitment process for new staff; membership of the Health and Safety Committee and membership of the Service User Support Group. The last key inspection, made on 19th August 2008, was very positive. The service was judged to be excellent at that time. The report identified areas of best practice and found that the care and support given in the home is of a very high standard. The AQAA confirmed that the home values equality and diversity. The home is part of Leonard Cheshire Disability (LCD). The organisation is at the forefront of raising awareness about disability and campaigns tirelessly to improve access to all areas for people with disabilities. Transport is provided for community activities and the people who use this service are supported to practice their religions if they wish. Personal choice is valued and support is given to help the people who use this service maintain as much independence as possible. Specialist equipment, such as hoists and electric wheelchairs, is in place to help people to maintain their freedom of movement. This equipment is well maintained. Over the last year there have been a number of changes made following input from Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 service users. CCTV has been installed to improve security; families and friends are now regularly invited to Sunday lunch and barbeques; new pictures have been bought and others are moved around the home to give some variety to the environment; the complaints procedures has been produced in more formats; and two new minibuses have been purchased following a generous donation. The previous inspection report confirmed that the home meets health and personal care needs in the way the service users wish. The AQAA told us of some specific individual successes over the past twelve months, for example, one person has been able to move from the home to more independent living and anther, as a result of information the home provided, has been able to give up smoking. Staff recruitment and training continues to be excellent, in particular, the home promotes specialist training in the management of specific conditions such as multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. Recently the head chef has attended a training course on special dietary and nutritional needs. The home continues to be well managed. The registered manager is currently on planned statutory leave. The deputy manager is managing the home with the support of the area manager. The deputy manager completed the AQAA and is thanked for a document that gave us such excellent information. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? There will be no change to the inspection plan as a result of the Annual Service review. It should be noted that we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using this service.
