Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The rating of 2 stars GOOD service was made at the last Key Inspection carried out on 2nd June 2008. CQC will undertake a Key Inspection during June 2010. This service review was completed by Mrs Mavis Clahar Regulatory inspector for the home. We looked at all the information that we have received since the last key inspection. This included, The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. However, this AQAA projects as a coperate document with minimal information linked to outcomes the home provides for service users. Surveys No surveys were returned to us from the home at the time of compiling this review. The manager informed us the home did not receive any surveys to distribute. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The AQAA informs us that less than 25 of carers have attained NVQ L2 and above . The AQAA also informs there is a training matrix specific to the home that identifies the training requirenments of staff. It did not tell us if staff are being trained against their identified training needs. However, the AQAA further informs all mandatory training is up to date. The AQAA informs, All residents have comprehensive Personal Plans produced with the help of the QUEST assessment tool, which are reviewed monthly and updated as necessary. The AQAA further informs us that all residents are assessed for nutritional needs. The home ensures every menu used in the home is customer led and nutritionally balanced. They also provide a Nite Bite menu which allows service users to choose what to eat when they feellike it, whilst also providing healthy choices at any time throughout the night. The AQAA also informs prevention and treatment of pressure sores and residents care is focused on being person centred, supported by their Personal Best Programme. The AQAA informs the home operates a robust recruitment procedure to safeguard the service users and the monthly regulation 26 visits ensure that suitable staff are in post at all times. Very little information regarding Medication training, records of medication received, administered and returned to the pharmacy was included in the AQAA. However the AQAA informs Staff follow the homes policy and procedure on administering medication. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The AQAA informs Staff are trained in Safeguarding Adults based on the BUPA process. The AQAA informs no safeguarding issues were referred to the local Safeguarding team since the last Key Inspection. The home has received seven complaints and 86 of these were dealt with within the homes policy and procedure timescales. The AQAA further informs us that the home fulfils its objectives to maintain a safe and clean happy environment suited to the assessed needs of the service users. The homes acting manager has applied to become the registered as manager for the home. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. The Care Quality Commission (formerly Commission for Social Care Inspection) has not received any complaints or allegations in regard to this home. From evidence reviewed the home is continuing to offer good outcoes to people who use the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue with our inspection plan and the service will receive a key inspection as planned during 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service or if the new commission Care Quality Commission decides to change the timescale in which we currently inspect.
