What did we do for this annual service review? This annual service review included a visit to the nursing home to speak with the people who use the service and the staff that support the people with regard to their care. The visit was underataken on the 12th of November 2009. The service remains good. Two star. The visit also included a tour of the nursing home which provides a homely environment that is appropriate to the physical needs of the people who live there. The home also provides specialist aids and equipment to meet peoples needs. Peoples bedrooms were personalised. The nursing home was clean. Thirty people currently live at the home and there is currently a waiting list for places. A review of the information that the Care Quality Commission has received about the service since the last key inspection on the 12th of October 2007 was also undertaken. We looked at all of the information that we have received. This included the completed Annual Quality Assurance Assessment Form (AQAA) which was sent to us by the service in september 2009. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met by people using the service. The document also provides us with some numerical information about the service. The people that were spoken with on the day of the visit informed the inspector of the following comments: the bedroom is comfortable and clean the food is excellent I am happy with staff everthing is excellent. People can visit when they want. I get up when I want and go to bed when I want. One person informed us that the bed is changed every day. The staff are good I have known them a long while. The person also confirmed they like the dog that visits the people at the home several times per week. The inspector saw this activity taking place on the day of the visit and it obviously brought people much enjoyment. The relatives that were visiting on the day of the visit confirmed they were happy with the care received. One person said, everything is very good the staff are helpful and kind. The management team and staff members were spoken to both individually and as a group on the day of the inspection. All of the staff spoken with confirmed that the managers are very good approachable and hands on. Staff felt the the atmosphere in the home was good that it was a good place to work and people worked as a team. All of the staff spoken withconfirmed that they had regular supervision. When training was discussed staff felt that training was very good. One member of the staff team had only just been recruitedat the nursing home and was completing their induction. They confirmed they were very well supported by all of the team members.
Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We also looked at how the service manages complaints and what they had informed us about in relation to things that had happened. These are called notifications and they are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service since the last inspection, relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the service were also considered as part of this review. The record of complaints was looked at at the time of the visit and found to be in order. The complaints procedure was displayed in serveral locations thoughout the nursing home. All of the people that were spoken to on the day of the visit and those people that were visiting said were happy to approach any member of the staff team if they had concerns. The complaints book was seen and found to be in order. No safeguarding referals have been made since the time of the previous inspection. No complaints have been received by the Care Quality Commission. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it.This was clear and gave us all of the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a very good service and they know what further improvements they need to make. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The inspection plan is not going to change and we will do a key inspection by September 2010. However the service can be inspected at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people who use the service.
