Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received about the care home since the last key inspection. This information included the homes Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This is a self-assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It was completed by the manager of the home. We also asked people who use the service to complete surveys for us. These surveys tell us what it is like for people using this service. We also looked at other information we have about the service. There have been no complaints about this service. The home has told us about any events that have happened. These are called notifications and it is important that the home keeps us upto-date on anything that affects the well being of people using the service. The home is good at keeping us informed of these events. We also look at the previous key inspection and any changes to the service since then. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. However since the AQAA was submitted, the maintenance certificates have expired. The manager told us on the telephone that this work had not yet been carried out but dates had been arranged for the work to be done. Improvements have included better information for people. For example, documents can be converted into large print. As rooms have become vacant they have been redecorated and residents are given a choice about moving into a room more suitable for their needs. Other areas of the home have also been refurbished. Training for staff continues to improve. Staff have had training in palliative care. A specialist falls team have provided a clinic for people at risk and have given staff advice and support. New care plans are in place to reflect the mental capacity of residents. This will help staff know how to care for people in the best way. Activities have been changed as a result of comments by residents. Surveys returned by people who live in the home were positive about living at Craigarran. People confirmed that they receive the care and support they need, that the activities are good and that they like the food. Comments included, The staff are very friendly, helpful and always there when you need them. Overall excellent care home. Surveys returned by healthcare professionals were also positive. Comments include, Tries to appropriately consult. and Knows patients needs. Happy to take my advice. Always welcoming. Staff who returned surveys were also positive and they confirmed that they have enough support, experience and knowledge to meet the different needs of people who live in the home. Comments included, The care home has a friendly atmosphere and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 service users are well looked after. When asked what the home could do better one person commented, Have more equipment to make work easier, especially domestic equipment. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they continue to improve the service for the people who live here. In this way they have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 12 February 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living here.
