We visited this home on Tuesday 18th May 2010, arriving at 10.00 am and staying until 12.00 pm. The purpose of this inspection was to assess how well the home is doing in meeting some of the key National Minimum Standards and Regulations. The registered manager was not present when we visited. We were assisted by the senior care assistant on duty who provided documentation and answered any questions we raised. We examined the records of two residents. The residents records included care plans that had been reviewed on a regular basis for identified needs such as personal development, healthy lifestyle and mental health. We also looked at medication and associated documentation. All was found to be stored correctly and records sampled did not contain any discrepancies. Incident records that we looked at detailed one event where medication was found to be missing and another where a resident reported personal items having been stolen. Records for both included evidence of investigation. The commission was not notified in writing in line with Regulation 37 of the Care Home Regulations 2001. We discussed this with the Senior on duty informing them that both incidents should have been reported to us. We directed them to our website where further information regarding Regulation 37 notifications can be found. Staff training records that we viewed evidence that staff receive training in areas including first aid, food hygiene, health and safety, safeguarding, mental health and fire. We viewed the homes complaints records. There is a system in place for recording both informal and formal complaints. An abundance of compliments were seen to be on file. During our visit residents were seen moving freely around the home. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal. Staff were heard talking to residents in a polite, yet friendly way.
