This visit formed part of the annual inspection process of the Care Quality Commission under the Care Standards Act. In compiling this report we took into consideration evidence we received prior to this visit such as the information the home gave us in their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) and notifications about significant events, as well as the evidence that we gathered during this visit. During this visit we spent time talking to the service user and the registered provider of the service; we looked at important documents such as care plans and daily records and made a tour of the home. The home was judged to provide excellent outcomes for service users at the last inspection. At this visit documentation was found to be in good order. It is appropriate and proportionate to the size of the home. The care plans are comprehensive and agreed with the service user and local health care team. This means that the needs and wishes of the people who use this service are given prime consideration and that all who support them can be consistent in their approach. There is wide choice of activities and these are tailored to individual wishes. Recent activities include a trip to the ballet, pub and restaurant meals out and country walks. One service user has a part time job and is now able to walk to work and carry out the job role without additional support. The service user we spoke to has lived at the home for many years and told us that she is very happy, has plenty to do and can do the things she enjoys doing. The home places a strong emphasis on health care and this is closely monitored. Records show that all healthcare appointments are kept and that there are regular reviews of medication. Medication is well managed. It was good to note that one service user is able to self medicate within a risk assessment framework. Nutrition is carefully monitored and a healthy diet encouraged. The home encourages participation in shopping and food preparation and we were told that baking is one of the activities that the service user enjoys very much. The home is safe, clean and well-maintained. It is conveniently situated for local shops and other facilities such as places of worship, library and leisure centre. there are good public transport and road links. The registered provider and the service user are thanked for the welcome they gave and their assistance with this inspection. The quality rating for this home remains as three stars. This means that the home continues to provide an excellent service for the people who live there.
