Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: The quality rating for this service is 3 stars. This means that people who use this service experience excellent outcomes. This visit to Dystlegh Grange was unannounced. It took place over one day, taking four and a half hours in total and was done by one inspector. This report will say we when referring to our activities and findings, as it is written on behalf of the Care Quality Commission. The purpose of our visit was to check that the needs and expectations of the people who use the service continue to be met and exceeded so they experience excellent outcomes. Our visit was just one part of the inspection. Before the visit took place we asked the manager to complete a questionnaire that we call an annual quality assurance assessment or AQAA for short. It gives us information about how the home is meeting the needs of the people who live there and includes plans for future development. Survey questionnaires were made available for the people who live at the home, and their views have been taken into account. We looked at the information that we already had about the home and this, with the information from the AQAA. helped us to form our inspection plan. Health and personal care. We spoke with ten of the people who lived at Dystlegh Grange and we looked at the care records for two people to see how their health and personal care needs were being met. The people we spoke with were unanimous in their praise for the home, staff, standard of care and facilities and services provided. One person told us that the home could not be described as anything other than excellent and all others made similar comments including Splendid in every way and Excellence beyond compare. We could see that people have choice and control over their lives and the principles of dignity and privacy are promoted so people who live at Dystlegh Grange feel involved, respected and valued. People told us that they were particularly impressed with the way managers and staff helped and supported them with their health and personal care needs. Each person has a care plan which has been developed with them or someone close to them so they receive care in the way they want and prefer. Personal healthcare needs including specialist health, nursing and dietary requirements are recorded in each persons care plan and provide an overview of their health care needs and act as an indicator in health requirements. Records show that the managers and staff have excellent working relationships with the many health and social care professionals who visit people at the home or see them at appointments in community surgeries and hospital. For example one of the people who lives at the home was found to be at a high and ever greater risk of falls. Records show that the manager and staff have worked in partnership with the person and their health and social care advisors to explore every possible solution to the problem so the person is safe and their rights and quality of life are prompted.
