What the care home does well Discussions with people living in the home and their relatives and information contained in questionnaires confirmed that the home provides excellent service provision to include a very homely atmosphere. Comments included: Staff care for the residents exceptionally well and give standard of care over and above what is expected. Staff even visit residents when they are in hospital Home always looks inviting and attractive, smells clean and is very homely. Staff are always smiling and cheerful. Staff speak respectfully, gently and positively to residents and offer encouragement and explanations about aspects of daily life. I cannot speak highly enough about Kerr sands. I always feel welcome and am offered drinks etc. Staff keep records so that I know what my relative has been doing on the days I cannot visit. I feel that this is my home and am able to treat it as such. We are not regimented in any way and can do pretty much as we please. I simply could not find a better place to be. It is homely and everything is done well. A loving environment which I have not found in any other residence for the elderly. Cares for us in every way. The owner manager is an exceptional person who not only goes the extra mile, she goes mile after mile. Staff treat my relative with the utmost care, consideration and are always mindful of peoples dignity. There is nothing staff won`t do to help and they do it with such professionalism. First class food and services. Staff of the home were observed carrying out their care and support roles and it was noted that they had excellent interactions with the people living there. Staff said they were trained and supported to provide personal care and support in a way that made people feel respected , valued and empowered What the care home could do better: The site visit was most positive and no shortfalls were identified. However discussions with the manager identified that she is in the process of making changes to the care plans to ensure they fully detail individual needs, preferences, capacity and ability in line with person centered care. Medication systems have also been recently updated and these changes necessitate that a revised medication policy is in place to make sure that all aspects of medication toinclude receipt, administration, recording, storing an disposal is well managed.
