Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. This includes any safeguarding adult work including referrals and joint working. The previous key inspection and any other visits we have made to the service. Information provided by the registered manager and responsible individual. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It gave us some of the information we asked for in respect of what the service does well but there was not always a lot of information regarding what the service could do better ,what improvements had taken place in the past twelve months and what further improvements were being made. We carried out a key inspection of the service on 22nd October 2008. We made the judgement that the service provided a two star good service. The service scored excellent for daily life and social activities and environment and good for all other sections. We looked at the information in the AQAA and considered other information we had received. Our judgement is that the outcomes remain good for people who use the service. The AQAA informs us that the manager has continued to improve the service by reviewing care plans and a new comprehensive risk assessment process is in place. Resident meetings are held and action is taken on issues raised such as more activities and changes to the menus. The environment at Edwina Mountbatten House is being improved all the time and since the last review new flooring has been fitted and there is an ongoing redecoration programme in place. A new back gate has been fitted for extra security and residents continue to live in personalised, comfortable surroundings. Health and Safety training is planned for the near future for all staff. Twelve of the fifteen staff have attained a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Care which means they may have enhanced skills and knowledge which may provide an increased quality of care. The manager has an NVQ level 4 and the Registered Managers award and the three assistant managers are working towards NVQ level 4 as well. The AQAA informs us that monthly Regulation 26 visits are carried out at the service and residents have meetings. We are not clear on the quality assurance system and because there is little information in the AQAA regarding improvements that have been made or are planned we are not able to make a judgement for this area. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. This included any accidents and admissions to hospital. It was identified in the last key inspection report that the service may benefit from having information technology such as a computer with Internet access so the manager could gain more information in respect of the Commissions expectations and to gather information to continue to improve the service for the residents. The AQAA informs us that installation of a computer system is planned for the next twelve months. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 22nd October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
