Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The annual service review for Golden Years included the following : The last key inspection was undertaken on 08/12/08 when it received the quality rating of 2*. The person in charge was asked to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) by us. The AQAA is a self-assessment and Data set, which providers are asked to complete each year and is one of the main ways that we can obtain information about how they are meeting the outcomes for people using the service. Completion of the AQAA gives providers the opportunity to tell us about their service and how well they think they are performing. This information allows us to develop a picture of the service being provided and target our inspection activity. Surveys were returned to us by people living in the home giving us their views about what it is like living at Golden Years. What the manager has told us about things that have happened in the home, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Information from previous inspections and any information received from organisations since the last inspection. What has this told us about the service? The owner of Golden Years completed the AQAA and sent it to us. The information provided was clear and showed us how the service was meeting the expectations and outcomes for people living at the home. The AQAA was detailed, clear and included what they did well and how they could improve the service. We received a number of surveys from people who live at the home asking them for their views on how the home is run, the responses were positive and included, Its a lovely Home. Evidence from the previous inspections, information supplied to us by the owner over the past year, what the owner tells us in the AQAA and comments from surveys returned, confirm equality and diversity issues are promoted within the home through discussion and training. This is to ensure residents are treated with dignity, respect and as an individual. One survey returned from a person who lives at the home said, I dont think they could get better caring people to work here. The owner explains in the AQAA that staff strive to preserve and maintain the privacy and dignity of people who live at Golden Years, to ensure they are supported for in a caring atmosphere. Comments from people who live at Golden Years and information in the AQAA confirm the home is maintained well, and improvements have been made to the inside and outside of the building to ensure people live in pleasant surroundings. The owner Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 informs us in the AQAA a new wet room is being installed so that people who have mobility problems will have easier access to bathing facilities. Other improvements to the building include, new carpets in the dining room and some bedrooms redecorated. One person who lives at the home wrote, They keep updating things all the time, Its a lovely place to live. Training and development of staff continues to be ongoing for the management, to ensure staff have the skills and competencies to provide the support people who live at the home need. Information from previous inspection reports and the AQAA show a commitment to training to ensure staff keep developing skills and knowledge to ensure they are confident in their role at the home. The owner tells us of the high percentage of staff (90 ) who completed a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) to level 2, which is a recognised qualification for people who work in care homes. One person who lives at the home wrote, The staff are competent and supportive. Since the last inspection the owner has kept us informed of any issues that have happened and how they have been dealt with. The owner and staff continue to provide a good service to people who live at the home and improve outcomes for everyone at the Golden Years. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to monitor information about Golden Years and will carry out an inspection when required.
