We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This may include: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. We also received a survey form, completed by the person living there and spoke by telephone to a relative of that person, to get their views about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at this information and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they recognise the importance of promoting the independence and decisionmaking of the person living there. Although Goodwins is also the owners family home, the AQAA tells us that the owner/manager has good systems in place to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of the resident. In the last year parts of the home have been redecorated and a second lounge has been created to provide more choice for the person living there. The single survey we received has responded always to questions like do the staff listen and act on what you say, and do you receive the care and support you need. They commented I believe I am well looked after and the home makes me feel like its my home. We spoke by telephone to a relative who visits the home regularly. They said they were more than 100 happy. They said their relative had an interesting and varied life at Goodwins. Their relative was consulted about the care and support they received and their views were respected and valued. They said the manager had contacted them promptly in the past, when their relative had had a fall, or had been less well. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 They added that they would be comfortable speaking with Penny (the owner), if they had any concerns about the home, as would the person living there, however both were very happy with the present arrangement. Neither the home nor the commission have received any complaints in the past year. The home has let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? It is currently our statutory responsibility to inspect all care services at least once every three years. Therefore we are not planning to inspect this service before 1 February 2012. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
