Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: 1) The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. 2) Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. 3) Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. 4) What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. 5) The previous key inspection, which was conducted on 29/07/07 and the last Annual Service review, which was conducted on 19/09/08. 6) Relevant information from other organisations. 7) What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home was rated good at the last inspection in July 2007. The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. For instance, in the AQAA the manager told us about some of the improvements they had made since the last inspection, All service users who lives in this home has limited verbal communication and two of them have a visual impairment. The staff were more able to understand the needs, likes and dislikes of the service users by spending considerable amount of time to learn about the different ways of communicating with them, this either through body language, noise or facial expressions. One of the service user who does not like to be touch in anyway i.e. hands when cutting nails, feet when cutting toe nails and hair when combing, she continuously has shown signs that she is now more calm and friendly with everybody by following a suggestion to introduce a gradual massage, she is now receiving half a session of massage each week which she has started on just 15 minutes, she also now allow hairdresser to cut her hair without problem whereas she used to resist. It was suggested to produce a scrap book of a service user daily activities and achievement in order to recognise the individual efforts and aspirations. We have started to use a multi media system in order to have visual reference and understanding of the individual perform and communicate on daily basis as they are all non verbal. At the last inspection people living in the home told us that they were happy there. At the point of writing this report no information has been received to show that this has changed. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by July 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
