What the care home does well The service makes sure that it writes things down very carefully, so that everybody knows what people need and how staff are going to help them. The home make sure that people are helped in a way that they prefer by asking them to agree to how they are to be helped. The home has written down what help people need to make sure that they stay as healthy as they can and support people to get any additional health care, as necessary. Medicine is given by staff who are properly trained and know how to give it safely. The home make sure that people are not badly treated by anyone, they listen to what people say to them and know what to do if they are worried that people do not feel safe. People feel safe in the home and are happy to talk to staff if they have any worries or concerns. People who live in the home are happy to talk about their lives some of their comments included, `I am very happy,it is a wonderful place to live`, `The staff are very helpful to me`, `very good home`, `everything satisfactory`, `caring and friendly staff`, `I`m very happy with the care mum is getting`, `really caring and staff take time they`re not rushed`, `the home is clean and colourful, staff are very helpful and friendly`,`it`s a lovely place, the staff couldn`t be kinder`, `staff always have time for you and listen to what you`re saying`, `I feel very safe here much safer than when I was at home`, `visitors and family are always welcome`, `I really hope that I can stay here for the rest of my life I feel so safe and know that if I need anything I only have to ask`, `I feel so relaxed and peaceful here`. Another professional who is a regular visitor to the home said that she feltthat people received good care, the home always ask for help and advice as necessary and she had never seen staff be anything but respectful and sensitive to peoples` needs. The home is run by a very experienced manager who knows what people need and works very closely with the staff team and the people who live in the home. The people who live in the home are very involved in making any changes to improve their lives. The home make sure that they regularly check that they are giving people the best possible care. What the care home could do better: The home continues to provide an excellent service and the people who live there are very happy with the care they receive. There are no requirements or recommendations as a result of this random inspection visit. There are bedrooms on both ground and first floors and all rooms are single occupancy. The home is operated by Bracknell Forest Borough Council and is located in a residential area in Bracknell, with local shops available nearby. The home provides a choice of three main lounge areas with smaller seating areas available separate from these. Service users also have the choice of two dining rooms.
Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 8 Brief description of the care home The home has two main enclosed garden areas with keypads on exit gates, to enable service users to move freely and safely within the gardens, which provide areas of lawn, paved paths and patios, and seating in various areas, with shade available, as well as some sensory planting. There is also a first floor terrace where service users may sit outside. The fees are £605 per week. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found:
We found that Heathlands is still providing an excellent service to the people who live there. The last key inspection on this service was completed on the 20th of June 2007. This is a report for the random inspection, which included a routine unannounced site visit to the service. This took place between 9.45 and and 2.00 pm on the the 27th of May 2010. The information was collected from an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, a document sent to the service from the Care Quality Commission and completed by the registered manager, Linda Parsons, surveys returned to us by nine people who use the service and four surveys returned to us by staff who work in the home. Discussions with nine people who live in the home and the the manager took place. Limited observation of people and their interactions with staff took place during the visit to the home. Reviewing records of the people who use the service and other records and procedures was also used to collect information on the day of the visit. All information received by the Commission since the last inspection, about this service was also taken into account when producing this random inspection report. What the care home does well:
