Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 7 What we found: We visited the service without telling them we were coming, we did this because when we completed the annual service review we were concerned by the high number of safeguarding alerts and that the home had not had a manager in post since September 2009. We were also concerned about how the refurbishment work was affecting the people who use the service. We found that there is a manager in post who has been at the service since February 2010, the manager has submitted their application to register with the commission and will be interviewed in early May. The manager is very experienced and has been registered before and ran a service with three stars. We found that there are a high level of safeguarding alerts, this is because every incident which occurs involving people who use the service is reported according to local protocols. People who use the service require very specialised support and have very complex needs and ways of communicating. Only one alert resulted in a safeguarding investigation and this alert was raised by the service following a sudden death in the home where they wanted to ensure they had followed all procedures in ensuring the individual concerned was protected. Staff who work in the service have safeguarding training. There has been a programme of refurbishment at the service and this has now finished.
