Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. - Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection. - Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Many positive comments were received about the service offered at the home. These included: Of all the homes I looked at Hollywood was one of the best, carers are cheerful and understanding. I would especially like to emphasise that both day and evening carers are marvellous and could in no way be bettered. The home provides a home from home environment with the stability of experienced and loving staff that gives the family the confidence to place my mother in their care. We couldnt wish for a nicer place for our mom to be living, the carers are very attentive for all of moms needs. When you do raise a concern the manager always listens and does his best to sort it out. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The surveys returned to us by the people living in the home and their relatives indicated that there was room for improvement in the range of activities available in the home. people were particularly interested in going out more. Comments included: Provide more stimulation for those that are able bodied. More activities or going out together. For those who could take part I would like to have trips to places of interest. Home based activities e.g. bingo, quizzes etc could be arranged. the carer who was most experienced at this type of event has left, but it would be nice if another carer could take sessions. I would like to go out more. I love shopping it would help me feel more settled. Information in the AQAA indicates that there are some improvements planned which will hopefully address the comments made. The AQAA says they plan to: Introduce new material into the activities and recreation programme. To use the residents discussion meetings as a platform for developing activities and recreation in line with residents wishes. The surveys returned to us by staff indicated staff were satisfied with the range of training they received at the home. The AQAA told us that well over the required fifty percent of staff were qualified to NVQ level 2 or above. This should ensure that staff have all the necessary skills and knowledge to care for the people living in the home. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 17th November 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
