What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. We sent out surveys to the service users and staff but at the time of writing the Annual Service review we had not received back any of the surveys. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. This includes any safeguarding adult work including referrals and joint working. The previous key inspection, and any other visits we have made to the service such as registration visits. Information provided by the registered manager and responsible individual. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We carried out a key inspection of the service on 30th October 2008 and the judgement was that the service provided a two star good service. We looked at the information in the AQAA and considered other information we had received . Our judgement is that the outcomes remain good for people who use the service. The AQAA informs us that the manager has continued to improve the service by having reviewed activities for service users and providing more opportunities for service users to participate in activities. A communion service is held every couple of weeks at the service users request. The environment at Kent Oaks has been improved and since March 2009 there has been an increase from ten to thirteen beds. With the increase in the number of bedrooms there has been a lot of work carried out with the environment including redecoration, a new garden room and a new lounge . This means there are more spacious and comfortable surroundings for the service users. Externally there are improvements to the garden area with a ramp fitted to aid service users with mobility needs and for wheelchair access. The manager is now registered and continues to identify aspects of the service which Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 need to improve and is working towards accomplishing this. These include working on risk assessments following an audit from the services own health and safety consultants. A lot of work has been carried out in respect of staff training and now 84 of the staff are trained in NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) 2 in care . The manager is also in the process of starting NVQ 4 in Care. This may provided a more skilled and knowledgeable care team which may benefit service users. A log is maintained of all comments made and surveys are sent out to service users so the Responsible Individual and the registered manager can continue to improve the service provided to the service users. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection such as people being admitted to hospital and leaving the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 30th October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
