Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service, staff and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. And the previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The last Key Inspection judged outcomes for people who use the service to be good. No requirements or recommendations were made and the service met all National Minimum Standards that were assessed and exceeded five standards. The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and informative. The AQAA states that the service welcomes prospective residents, families and visitors to view the home at any reasonable time, without the need for an appointment. Care plans are individual for each resident and are up-dated monthly. Residents views are actively sought allowing them to feel involved in their care. Staff are well trained. The homes interior and exterior are well maintained and create a homely atmosphere. No complaints or safeguarding referrals/investigations have been made. Eight service users responded to our surveys, most agreed they received the personal and healthcare support they need. The service sees to all my medical requirements including doctor and hospital appointments. One service user stated not all staff are aware of my specific health problems and wondered why they were always left in the quiet room until last when waiting to go to bed. Staff are available when needed, are helpful and skilled. The home is exceptionally well run with friendly helpful staff. Daily care is excellent, all aspects of care are done very well. Service users are aware of who to inform if they are unhappy and are confident that their concerns will be taken seriously as staff listen to and act on what is being said. The home is always clean. The home is cleaned thoroughly and to an exceptionally high standard. Most stated that the meals were always or usually good. One comment received stated there isnt enough time to enjoy their meal. Activities are arranged for those who wish to participate. Eight staff strongly agreed they are given up to date information about service users that enable them to provide appropriate care and support. All agreed the service had carried out Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) and relevant pre employment checks before employment started. Staff are confident they receive relevant training on a regular basis and would know how to deal with a complaint. Comments received included Knellwood offers a homely atmosphere, good home Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 cooked food and care to a high standard. The building and grounds are well maintained providing a pleasant place to live. We work well as a team. All staff have a good level of training. The service users needs are taken care of and any medical assistance is given as quickly as possible. Good staff/service user relationships, the cleanest home Ive ever worked in. Communication is good and there is a nice atmosphere to work in. More permanent staff, especially night would improve Knellwood. Two healthcare professionals that responded to our surveys were satisfied with the service provided by Knellwood. Comments included Excellent care at all times. The patients I have at Knellwood are well cared for and their medical needs are met. There is good communication and the staff try to deal with medical problems in situ to avoid any unnecessary hospital admission. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 31/07/10. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
