Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? They sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that they are still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA from the home stated; We do the following to ensure that the views of people who use our services are promoted and incorporated into what we do: Hold Regular minuted residents meetings to which all are invited to contribute items for the agenda and at which they are encouraged to comment and express their wishes. Have daily contact with the residents and an open door policy enabling them to speak to a member of the management team any day of the week. We do the following to ensure that race, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief are promoted and incorporated into what we do: We currently have no non UK residents but would view all applicants as equal regardless of their race or colour. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 Our staff team has a diverse mix of East Asian, African and central Europeans and the residents accept care form all. However because of the foundation of the charity and ethos of the home we allow only professing Christians to come into residency to maintain the Christian environment. There was reference in the AQAA to improvements that had been made and also planned for the homes environment. These include; Added photographs to our brochure More regular reviews of care plans and risk assessments within a formal timetable. Ongoing maintenance and development of our gardens and outside space. 5 staff have achieved an NVQ qualification and a further 4 have commenced studies at NVQ3 level and 1 at NVQ2 level. Enhancements to the environment for the added comfort of residents and staff alike. We received survey comments from four staff, two health professionals and eight service users and/or their relatives. All continue to be satisfied with the quality of the care provided, the training staff receive and the support from management. Some service users said; They provide good care and provision of attractive surroundings The food is good I am happy to be here they care for us well It is a happy place to be They employ caring and competent staff The home is based on kindness and consideration I am satisfied on the whole This home is superior to others I have seen Some staff said; We provide excellent support for the residents The personal care is individualised The management cares about the staff as well as the residents Residents are given choices and have their say in what they want Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 The home provides a good working environment We always look after the well being of residents There is a sense of peace and friendliness in the home Some health professionals said; The home seems caring and the residents well Could be better prepared with information prior to contacting the GP Caring and thorough care provided The service continues to work well with us and let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. They have shown that they manage issues well. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 30th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
