Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all of the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection was completed. The information used to create this annual service review is based on the following information: The last key inspection report. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living in the home. It also gives us data about staffing. Surveys completed by people using the service. Any complaints about the service. The notifications received from the home. This is when a service tells us that something significant has taken place. Registered care homes are legally required to tell us about certain important events. What has this told us about the service? The previous inspection site visit was completed on 18/11/2008 and from the evidence we gathered the service quality was rated as good. We judged that the service did the following areas well: - Each person has a care plan which is regularly reviewed. The people living in the home said that they were happy living here, because the staff treat them well and understand them and they have lovely food and daily activities. Each person has their own bedroom, personalised to their individual tastes and have access to a comfortable and homely accommodation that they have been involved in redecorating. Both people expressed their enjoyment of the day to day activities that they take part in. Skilled carers have access to the training they need provide support to the people living in the home as required whilst supporting them to feel in control of their lives, maintain their independence and links with their family and friends and to be part of the community. The last inspection provided evidence that the service provider had met most of the good practice recommendations of the previous report, and the majority of the property had been re-decorated. The previous inspection report made no requirements. Three recommendations should Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 be given consideration, two of which were repeated from the previous report. These include making some changes to documentation and improving aspects of health & safety. The AQAA was completed by the services managing director and was dated 19/10/09. It was thoroughly completed and provided the following information to us: The provider stated that over the past twelve months the following areas have improved; The service user guide and the statement of purpose have been reviewed and improved. The amount of information recorded on peoples activity planners has increased. Activities with local outside agencies and groups has increased. Procedures have been produced in a visual format. The service has supported people to increase their confidence and voice their opinions. The kitchen, landing/hallway and upstairs bathroom has been decorated. The services induction procedure has been reviewed and improved. Job descriptions have been re-written and will be used as part of the appraisal process. The service provider has recruited a senior carer and a full-time office administrator. The staffing rota is tailored to meet the needs of people living in the home. In the AQAA the service provider states planned improvements for the next twelve months include; Further review of activities for people to be involved in, making use of local agencies and groups where possible. Continue to ensure health plans are documented and updated appropriately. Continue refresher training in safeguarding adults, also a pictorial training programme for people in the home with communication difficulties. The garden outside the property will be improved. Implementation of a computerised care package. We did not receive any completed questionnaires from people living in the home, or staff. The CQC has not received any complaints about this service since the previous inspection was completed. The AQAA states that the home has not received any complaints. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 The CQC has not received any notifications from the home since the previous inspection was completed. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Subject to any changes in registration and inspection practice following implementation of the Health and Social Care Act 2008, our current plan is to do a key inspection by 18th November 2010.
