What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included. The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. The manager had completed the AQAA in a clear and concise way and gave us all the information we asked for in detail. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and they have identified what improvements they have made over the past year and how they are striving to make further improvements. The AQAA identified that the home had made improvements in the environment over the last year and service users have been involved with the choosing of furniture and fabrics for the redecoration of the home. The AQAA says that as a result of listening to the people who use the service, changes have been made to mealtimes and menus, a greenhouse has been erected for service users to use. A new nurse call bell system has been installed recently and, at the request of the service users, an occupational therapist provides a service to the home and alternative health practice therapists also attend the home. The focus of this service is to ensure that the service user is at the centre of how the service is run and their suggestions and opinions are listened to and appropriate changes are made to meet their needs. The AQAA tells us that the staff practices and home life encompass equality and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 diversity and that staff understand that every person is individual and has a different view of the world they live in and this must be respected when supporting them to live the lives they choose. People living in the home tell us they are happy there. They told us that they get the care and support they need, staff are available for them and that the staff listen to and act upon what they say. We sent out 15 service user surveys of which 8 were returned, 15 staff surveys of which 5 were returned, 4 visiting professionals of which 1 was returned and 2 care managers, neither of which were returned. The comments received were very complimentary about the home and expressed a high level of satisfaction with the quality of care and support provided to service users at Little Brook House. Comments include. The home operates as a real care home within the constraints of the fees we pay and I am very happy. I benefit from being independent as and when I want company. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review?
