We had made a previous site visit on 27th August 2009 and found that the requirements had not been met by the given timescale of 31/07/09 and a new timescale of 14/08/09 was given. A requirement was made that where medical oxygen is prescribed for residents there must be records kept of its prescription and administration and include the flow-rate and duration of use. We inspected the records relating to 3 people prescribed medical oxygen and found suitable records were in place. We made a requirement that where medical gases are used and stored there must be appropriate risk assessment and risk management procedures documented and in place. We inspected the rooms where medical oxygen was in use and the door to each carried appropriate signage. We also looked at the care records for people who are prescribed medical oxygen and saw that appropriate risk assessments were in place. We also made a requirement that medication must be locked away when not in use. During this inspection, we toured the building and did not find any medication accessible to unauthorised people. We therefore consider the requirements have been met.
