What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment, or AQAA that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. A summary of our findings of our last inspection in December 2008 is as follows, What the care home does well, The care needs of all new residents are assessed before they are admitted to the care home. This means prospective residents will know if their needs will be met by the care and services provided. A detailed care plan is drawn up for each resident so that staff have information about the care needs of residents and the level of care they require to ensure they have been met. Residents are provided with a programme of activities on a regular basis in order to meet their social and recreational needs and interests. Residents are provided with a varied menu to ensure they are provided with a nutritional and wholesome diet. Special diets are also catered for. All staff have received appropriate training for the work they are expected to do. This means they have the necessary skills and competencies to provide good quality care and services to residents. A maintenance and refurbishment programme is in place which ensures residents accommodation is safe and comfortable. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home is well managed and run in the best interests of residents. What has improved since the last inspection, The statement of purpose has been amended to include information about all the services provided at Littlefair. This means that prospective residents will have up date information about the care home so they can make an informed choice before deciding to move in. A detailed care plan is drawn up for newly admitted residents. This means care staff will have information about the needs of residents and how they are to be met from the first day of admission. Medication procedures have been reviewed especially with regard to the storage of medicines which require refridgeration. This means all medication is stored safely and in accordance with manufacturers directions. Improvements have been made to staff recruitment procedures within the home. This means that residents are better supported and protected from possible abuse. What the care could do better, We have made no requirements after this visit. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 10th December 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
