Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection in January 2009. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us numerical information about the service. Any surveys returned to us by service users and others with an interest in the service. Any information we have received about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and any action taken in response to requirements or recommendations made within the previous inspection report. What has this told us about the service? The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA), returned by the manager, provided current details about the home including areas where action has been taken to make improvements. The manager reported three improvements which had been made in direct response to resident feedback since the last inspection. These were the provision of a shower in addition to the bath, to enhance choice, the broadening of feedback surveys to include visitors and families; and the annual review of the Service User Guide. Other changes reported since the last inspection include the incorporation of equality and diversity training into the staff induction programme, monthly review of care plans, greater individualisation within the activities programme, the inclusion of the complaints procedure in the residents contract, improvements to laundry facilities, the provision of a new central heating boiler and remedial work to fire doors. There have been ongoing improvements in staff training, and an appraisal system has been introduced The AQAA also indicates a range of planned improvements for the future. There was one requirement arising from the last inspection. The manager wrote to the Commission confirming that this had been addressed. Since the last inspection, no reportable events have been notified to the Commission. The completed AQAA indicated that three new complaints had been received about the service in the last twelve months, all of which were reportedly addressed within 28 days. No complaints have been received by the Commission, for forwarding to the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 service, since the last inspection. There are reported to have been no safeguarding referrals relating to this service since the last inspection, and none have been brought to the attention of the Commission. The AQAA indicates a responsive service, which consults residents through day-to-day contact, quarterly residents meetings and annual quality assurance surveys. At the time of writing three completed inspection surveys had been received from service users, and three from care staff at the home. The residents feedback was entirely positive about the care provided. Additional comments included, excellent relationship and real friendship with staff who look after me well; they make everybody feel at home and its a lovely home. The staff feedback was also positive and staff additionally commented service users are well looked after; we get feedback from relatives, who are very happy; the care is very individualised, and we do plenty of activities with them. Our judgement is that the home continues to provide a good service to meet the needs of residents, and provides good outcomes for residents. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will not change our inspection plan, and will undertake the next key inspection by the 24th of January 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of residents Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information Document Purpose: Author: Audience: Further copies from: Annual service review CQC General Public 0870 240 7535 (national contact centre) Our duty to regulate social care services is set out in the Care Standards Act 2000.
