What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at information that we have received and requested since the last Inspection. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was sent out to the home and was completed and returned to CQC. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent out to people who use the service, and other interested parties, to seek their views on the quality of the service provided. Surveys were completed by everyone who lives at the home, one member of staff and one health and social care professional. What has this told us about the service? Perry Court provides a small family type living environment for people. The owner/manager has achieved the Registered Manager Award and a National Vocational Qualification in care at level 4, she also has many years experience of working with people who have a learning difficulty. The home is effectively run whilst retaining the family atmosphere. The AQAA states that the home consults people on all aspects of daily living to ensure the home is run in line with their wishes and expectations. They send out satisfaction surveys on an annual basis and informally seek peoples views daily. Everyone living at the home said that they ALWAYS made decisions about what they did each day, including the evenings and weekends. One person living at the home has a job in the local community and another attends a day centre. The AQAA states that people living at the home are encouraged to maintain and develop independent living skills and take part in the running of the home. People assist with household chores such as cleaning, shopping and cooking. They also take part in leisure activities in the local community and at the home. Since the last inspection a gardening project has been set up for those who are interested and they are hoping to expand this. The AQAA states the home has a commitment to providing person centred care and ensure that care is tailored to each individual. Since the last inspection the manager has completed a course on equality and diversity and passed their knowledge to the whole staff team. The health and social care professional who completed a questionnaire commented that the home Treats people as individuals. People living at the home are registered with local doctors and other health care professionals according to their individual needs. Staff assist people to attend appointments outside the home. The health and social care professional who completed Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 a questionnaire answered ALWAYS to the questions Are peoples health and social care needs properly monitored, reviewed and met by the care service? and Does the care home seek advice and act on it to meet peoples social and health care needs and improve their well being? The home employs one full time member of staff and 3 part time, 2 of the 4 staff have a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in care at level 2 or above. To minimise the risk of abuse to people who live at the home the AQAA states that all staff undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check before they begin work and references are sought and checked. The member of staff who completed a questionnaire confirmed that these checks had been undertaken before they began work. People living at the home said that they knew who to talk to if they were unhappy and how to make a formal complaint. The member of staff answered YES to the question Do you know what to do if someone has concerns about the home? No complaints have been made to the home or the Commission since the last inspection. All information received gives evidence that the home continues to provide a good service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
