Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received about Peterlee care home since the Key inspection. This information included the homes Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This is a self-assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It was completed by the manager of the home. We also asked people who use the service to complete surveys for us. These surveys tell us what it is like for people using this service. We also looked at other information we have about the service. There have been no complaints about this service. The home has told us about any events that have happened. These are called notifications and it is important that the home keeps us upto-date on anything that affects the well being of people using the service. The home is good at keeping us informed of these events. We also look at the previous key inspection and any changes to the service since then. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service. It was very detailed with clear evidence of how the home has improved since the last key inspection. The company have improved information available for people who live in the home and people who may wish to go and live there. This is called a Service user Guide and is now available in CD format. People confirmed on surveys that they are happy with the care they receive. Comments included: They look after me the best they can. Carers nice to me. Look after me very well. The last inspection report contained one requirement about activities. They were asked to demonstrate through care planning that people had been assessed and consulted with regard to the activity programme. They have recruited another activities leader. Dementia care mapping has commenced which will assist staff on the dementia unit assess what activities people enjoy. A large flat screen TV has been provided in the downstairs lounge. The home plan to form a Friends of Peterlee committee to represent peoples wishes and to help secure government funding towards activities. Improvements to the gardens is also planned. People who returned surveys indicated that activities are suitable and that they have a choice. The manager stated on the AQAA that there had been one complaint which was dealt with within using the companies own procedures. The home has previously demonstrated that they are good when dealing with complaints and contact other agencies if this is appropriate. All of the people who returned surveys confirmed that they know how to make a complaint. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 There have been improvements to the environment. The kitchen flooring has been replaced. A new assisted bath has been provided and a bathroom has been converted into a shower room. This will give people more choice about whether they prefer a bath or shower. People who returned surveys stated that the home is always clean and fresh. Comments included: Cleaners do a good job Clothes kept tidy. Staff who returned surveys indicated that they have enough support, experience and knowledge to meet the different needs of the people who live in the home. They also commented there are usually enough staff on duty to meet those needs. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they continue to improve the service for the people who live here. In this way they have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 15.10.10. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living here.
