We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last inspection. This included: 1) The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to use by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. 2) Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. At the time of writing the report surveys had not been received. 3) Information we have about how the service has managed complaints. 4) What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. 5) The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. 6) Relevant information from other organisations. 7) What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. From reading the annual quality assurance assessment it was evident that the people living in the home were the focus and the home is exploring how individuals can be more involved. Individuals views had been incorporated into the AQAA from the homes own quality audit questionnaire. This is good practice. The AQAA highlighted that there has been a high turnover of staff but a recruitment initiative has ensured that the staff posts have been filled. From the AQAA it was evident that ten members of staff are employed in the home of which 6 have an National Vocational Award in care. The last visit to the home was on the 11th November 2008. This provided further evidence that the home was providing good outcomes for the people living in the home. This report can be sought from the Care Quality Commissions Web site. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home has made one safeguarding referral to North Somerset and has kept the Care Quality Commission informed of the outcome. No complaints have been received by the Care Quality Commission since the last visit. The AQAA stated that all the individuals confirmed through the questionnaire that they are aware of the homes complaints procedure. Whilst we have not received any surveys from individuals prior to completion of this report, the annual quality assurance assessment included the views of the people using the service in respect of the care they are receiving and the environment that they live in. Where individuals had commented on aspects of their care the manager had identified an action plan to address the concern. For example one person was not aware of the health action plan that is in place. The manager stated that these would be more accessible to the individual with more involvement from them. Where individuals had commented on the decoration of the home an action plan is in place to address this. From reading the AQAA it was evident that the views of the individuals were listened to with action taken to address the shortfall. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 11th November 2010 . However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
