Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We reviewed all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection and annual service review. The information we looked at included: The annual quality assurance assessment,we call this the aqaa, that was sent to us by the home. The aqaa is a self assessment document that looks in detail at how well outcomes are being met for residents. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called Regulation 37 notifications and are a legal requirement. The outcomes from the last key inspection and annual service review. What has this told us about the service? When we did the last key inspection we found the following outcomes when we looked at what the home does well the following that we have quoted for this annual service review as we think these really good outcomes still apply: The occupants receive a supportive and caring service from Ms Rodman and the team. The staff team are highly motivated and committed to the work that they do. The occupants benefit from a safe supportive and enabling environment. Care plans and risk assessment records are detailed and informative and show well how to meet the occupants needs. The staff do a good range of training to help them support occupants who have Aspergers Syndrome to live a varied and fulfilled life. One occupant said of the service, Im quite happy here, another occupant said, the home is well organised and caters for the needs of the occupants. The aqaa document gave us some useful information about how the views of residents are promoted and incorporated into what the home do and we have quoted this extract:An annual occupant questionnaire is given to each individual and support is given if required to complete this, it is then evaluated by our Clinical Psychologist Assistant Psychologist and results distributed, this can be found in the Occupant Family Questionnaire file. Occupants are invited to participate in the interview and selection process for staff either by attending interviews or compiling questions they wish to be asked. During last year four internal interviews were attended by Occupants and their views were taken into consideration. Each Occupant has their own communication plan which they fill in so everyone is aware of how they wish to communicate with their respective families and what information they do not wish to be divulged. Care Programmed Approach and Planning Team Meetings are held alternately every quarter the occupants are offered the opportunity to participate in the preparation of these reports and staff will spend time to ensure that any needs are met and they fully Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 understand the process and content. They are encouraged to attend their own meetings and they can also choose to invite family members, an advocate or anyone else they wish to attend. They are offered a copy of the minutes and are able to choose which non professional also receives a copy. Each occupant meets with a member of their planning team they are invited to choose their own planning team on a monthly basis to review their weekly schedules, care plans, risk assessments and goals and objectives, this is an opportunity for them to express their views and needs on their current treatment plan and make any alterations as required. We hold a fortnightly house meeting, with a blank agenda posted a week before for occupants to write on if they do not wish to talk at the meeting. House expectations are created and can only be changed by the occupants during this meeting and things like the decorating, menus and activities and joint community trips are discussed. They all have an opportunity to raise any issues concerns activities at the meeting and have the option of typing up the minutes on their laptop with staff support and copies of the minutes are placed in the house meeting file for all to read. We have a suggestion box for everyone to use, the occupants can do this anonymously if they wish by typing on their laptop so we do not recognise their handwriting. All occupants are supported to complete an Essential Lifestyle Plan ELP. We read some very interesting information in the aqaa about how the principals of equality and diversity are reflected in the way that the home is run and in how residents are treated. We have quoted this extract : All staff have been provided with Equality Diversity and Rights training. All staff have been given a copy of the GSCC codes of practice document. We have an Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy and staff will sign a form to say they have read it. All occupants have an amount of chores for the house on their schedules, we do however take into consideration peoples abilities according to their age and how they are feeling at the time, as people with Asperger Syndrome can suffer with high levels of anxiety which can be debilitating at times. All occupants have the opportunity to go to church places of worship. The weekly schedules are reviewed monthly with the occupants and have the opportunity to add change any activities. All occupants have a weekly priority time on their schedules where staff and a vehicle are provided they can choose what they would like to do during this time. All occupants have support and encouragement to complete Essential Lifestyle Plans. Due to one occupant being elderly trips are arranged with this in mind, so all can enjoy trips out and he is not excluded, ie two members of staff so one can sit with him if he is tired. Our elderly occupant is supported to purchase new items of personal furniture that he said he would like to buy for his bedroom which are items more related to his age e.g. mobile table to go over bed which is used for him to read his papers on when he requires. We were told some really positive views by the occupants about the care and supported that they receive. This tells us that people feel really well supported at the home. As was also applicable when we carried out the last annual service review on the home, we found that Based on the information we have read we can see that the home are able to think of new and creative ways to make sure that their service is able to do the things that matter to people. We think outcomes for the people in the home may well be even better then at the time of the inspection. We are always told about important things that have happened in the home since we Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 did our last key inspection. The home is managed in a way that shows it has the interests of the people who live there at the centre of what they do. We have not received any concerns or complaints about the home over the last year. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will aim to do a key inspection by 14th February 2010 or after. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
