What the care home does well We spoke to a healthcare professional prior to our visit to the Home and they said that they felt that relationships between themselves and the Home have improved. They have provided training with regard to pressure care and feel that the staffs skills have improved in this area. We spoke to the Manager after our visit and she confirmed that all staff, apart from two, have attended Moving and Handling training recently and that a date is booked for the last two staff to attend in June 2010. This was an action agreed at the meetings. What the care home could do better: The other two agreed actions that we looked at during our visit have not yet been achieved. Staff have not yet attended Safeguarding training but we saw confirmation from the training provider that this is booked for June 2010. As a result of the safeguarding meetings it was identified that the care plans were of a poor quality - they did not include information about how to meet the residents needs, nor adequate risk assessments. The Manager has started to use a new care plan system. However, at the time of our visit only 19 of these had been started and none actually include a care plan. Therefore, there are no care plans providing clear guidance for staff about how to meet residents needs. We also looked at the daily records and fluid/turn charts that are currently in use. These are not being completed accurately, or in some cases, at all. Random inspection report

We carried out an unannounced visit to the Home on the 19th May 2010. During this visit we spoke to staff and looked at a selection of records. Neither the Manager, nor the deputy manager were on duty during our visit. The Home was inspected in September 2009 and was rated as an ADEQUATE quality rating. In February and March 2010 safeguarding strategy meetings were held to discuss concerns about care. The purpose of this visit to the Home was to check on their progress towards meeting actions agreed at the safeguarding meetings.
