We looked at the information we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The previous inspection report. Comments from people who use the services provided by the home. What has this told us about the service? When we last inspected the home, we made seven requirements to improve staff recruitment practice and the physical environment. As part of this review we spoke to the homes owner / manager. She told us that 5 of the requirements had been met and 2 had been partly met. As a result, Criminal Records Bureau checks had been obtained for all staff working in the home, staff had provided evidence of leave to remain and work in the UK, the homes fire safety risk assessment had been completed and residents bedrooms had been redecorated. The manager also told us that she was planning to expand the service and the requirements to refurbish the homes kitchen and improve access to the garden would be addressed as part of planned building works. As part of this review we sent confidential questionnaires to people who lived in the home and other people involved in their care. Three people living in the home returned the questionnaires we sent to them. Two people told us that they had support from relatives to complete the questionnaire. They were all very positive about the care they received at Preston Lodge. They told us they always received the care and support they needed, staff were always available when they needed them and staff always or usually listened and acted on what they were told. One person told us they always enjoyed the meals provided at the home. The other two people said they usually enjoyed the meals. All three people said they knew who to speak to if they were not happy or wanted to make a formal complaint. People also commented: On every visit I have made, I have found no fault with anything. The staff are very kind and caring and my relative always seems happy. The home makes everyone feel important. Just maintaining what they already do is fantastic. I have seen other homes and this is by far the best all round home. I am lucky my relative is there. They care for me as an individual, with respect, in a family atmosphere. Two health and social care professionals also returned the questionnaires we sent to them as part of this review. They were also positive about the care provided at Preston Lodge. They told us peoples health and social care needs were usually properly monitored, reviewed and met in the home and staff usually sought advice appropriately and acted on it. One person commented staff are always friendly and cooperative. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The homes owner / manager continues to tell us about significant events affecting people living in the home. We are satisfied that these events are managed effectively and people living in the home continue to experience good outcomes. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 7th July 2010. However, we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
