Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA told us that improvements have been made to the decor in the home. There have also been staff changes with three people including the cook being made redundant the outcome of this is involving the people who live in the home more in preparing their own meals. They also told us that there has been four complaints about the service in the past twelve months and one safeguarding alert and investigation. Nine shifts in the past three months have been covered by agency staff. Of the eleven permanent staff seven hold national vocational qualifications at level two or above. There have been several incidents reported to us of medication errors in the home which could indicate a lack of training for staff in this area. We had survey forms returned by four social and health care professionals they told us: that the service could to the following better: follow guidelines and individual plans, use keyworkers more effectively which one person said they were starting to do. One person said they should provide a more individual service so that people can do things they would like to do as an individual and have less group activities. Another professional said: there has been very good communication between all agencies involved. they have been very good at ensuring family contact. Another social care professional said: they are good at promoting individuals needs and choice Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 and good at supporting individuals to access community facilities and use of the resources available This person also thought the service could improve by: improving their risk assessments around incidents Three survey forms were returned by staff who work in the home who told us: Staffing levels are inconsistent Four people who live in the home returned survey forms and they told us that they knew who to talk to if they were unhappy, they all mentioned the manager by name. All four people who sent a survey form back said they thought the home was clean, that staff treat them well and that carers listen to them and act on what they are saying. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to complete a key inspection this year. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
