What did we do for this annual service review? This Annual Service Review was completed on 28th May 2009 The last key inspection was completed on 29th May 2008 We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the agency is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We received comments from staff and service users. All continue to be generally satisfied with the quality of the care the agency provides and that overall the care provided is GOOD. Some issues raised in the feedback forms relate to staffing, service users choices and one to one activities. The service users said: The carers are excellent, very kind and caring There is nothing about the home I am not happy with Generally I am happy in the home The home has a sunny atmosphere with wonderful staff who create an atmosphere of calm Compared to most homes I have visited this in the top bracket. In per centage terms 80 Some staff said: I feel the number of staff are inadequate for the growing needs of the service users. The staff just dont get enough time to give the clients time for mental stimulation which I feel is as important as their physical needs In general the care is Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 good but given the rising dependency of new and existing residents it is becoming more difficult to meet each residents needs I feel we need more support from managers With the increasing numbers of Acquired Brain Injury clients that the home are having I dont feel that the training is given, and also the growing numbers of young clients which I feel the home isnt stimulating enough for them. Other staff said; The day trips are good. Good care is given The service strives to balance a homely caring environment with nursing and clinical expertise. There is a high emphasis placed on rehabilitation and individual social needs We have an excellent Matron who plays a pivotal role and is very approachable. We provide a high standard of care in a comfortable well equipped environment. The health professionals said: The standard of care in both nursing and therapeutic terms is of a very high standard. Weekly meetings are arranged to ensure continuity of care from those disciplines attending All residents are dealt with at a very personal level There are occasions when the lines of communication are not as efficient as they could be, some improvement could be implemented More external activities would be beneficial I have worked at QAHH for the past 12 years and the care shown and given by the majority of staff has always been exemplary The home maintains each residents dignity and supports them in all the ways The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 31st May 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
