The detached property is situated in a residential area close to shops, transport routes and other local amenities. Paid parking is available in the street outside the home. A large lounge/dining room is available on the ground floor, and there is access either via steps or by the side of the building to the garden at the rear of the property. What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: * The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. * Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. * What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. * The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. * Relevant information from other organisations. * Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from staff. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. It had been thoroughly completed except for the parts relating to what they could do better but it did give us detailed information on all other parts of the service, in addition to some numerical information. The previous inspection was completed on 6 December 2007 and an Annual Service Review was carried out on 19 November 2008. Since December 2007 the service has regularly reported significant events that have happened in the care home, as they are required to do. Care plans are reviewed regularly to make sure they are up to date and service users are consulted on the contents ensuring they have a say in how their care is delivered. In addition the care planning process ensures the changing needs of service users are identified quickly. The home states it is keen to see people receiving a service as individuals and to meet their very individual needs at the outset with a comprehensive pre admission assessment. This process includes consultation with all interested parties and the provision of comprehensive information on the service. The home has said that it is good at getting feedback from people living in the home and their relatives and supporters, through written surveys and informally. They have acted on these comments by providing more activities. The last report was positive about the services provided at R-Janmayur Care Home and the AQAA indicates that the home has not received any complaints in the last twelve months. Five surveys from service users were returned to the Commission as were two from staff. All responded positively to Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 the questions and it is clear that the home is well managed and service users given a good level of care in a well maintained environment. The AQAA details a range of areas where improvements have been made in the last year. The environment has been improved with the relocation of the provision of a patio area and redecoration of both the inside and outside areas of the home. The AQAA also states that staff training has improved with two of the five care staff having completed a National Vocational Qualification in care at level 2. The AQAA demonstrates the homes commitment to promoting equality and diversity within the service by way of recognising the people who live at the home as individuals with their own strengths and needs. The home has a system in place for monitoring its own standards of care delivery which includes regular residents meetings and feedback questionnaires. Surveys completed by people living in the home and their relatives were positive with the friendliness and care given by staff singled out as being very good as is the food. The AQAA did not include good details of areas where the home could improve and therefore the registered providers need to review the quality monitoring systems to ensure improvements are on-going. The home has a range of policies and procedures pertaining to the running of the home that are regularly reviewed as part of the quality monitoring process. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know where improvements need to be made.
