Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints or allegations. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the home, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. The service history. Random sample surveys of people who use the service and their representatives. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. This was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA, the service history, and additional information received since the previous inspection and it is our judgement that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what improvements they have to make. The home continues to operate a structured admission procedure for all prospective residents regardless of their length of stay. The AQAA indicated that care plans which are person centred are are based on good needs assessments and consultation with residents and relatives. These are reviewed and updated regularly and when needs change. The AQAA describes the activities in place which meets individual needs and choice. The manager stated that by listening to residents they plan to increase the activity programme, provide more trips out and community participation. Plans are in place to employ a second activities coordinator, and to re landscape the gardens to make them accessible to wheelchair users, and to raise some flower beds to promote gardening activity. Residents are encouraged to follow a healthy eating plan and their nutritional needs Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 are catered for. The chef is in daily contact with residents and they are also encouraged to take an active part in menu planning. Ten residents survey forms were returned to The Care Quality Commission. They all had positive feedback regarding the home and the quality of care received. The home has a complaints procedure in pace and all residents and their relatives have a copy of this procedure. The AQAA describes the complaints procedure to be robust and promotes equal opportunity. All complaints are taken seriously and acted upon. There have been eight complaints recorded in the home in the last twelve months, all of which have been resolved in a timely fashion using this procedure. There is also a safeguarding vulnerable adults procedure in place and the manager stated that all staff undertake training regarding safeguarding during their induction period. The manage attended Surreys promotional campaign during the summer on raising safeguarding awareness and has cascaded this to the staff team. There is an ongoing maintenance and refurbishment programme in place and rooms are redecorated as required, and carpets and furniture replaced as necessary. The AQAA stated that a head housekeeper was employed recently to take responsibility for cleanliness and hygiene. Robust recruitment and vetting of staff ensure the safety of the residents. The AQAA indicated that residents are informally involved in the recruitment of staff. All staff have a training and development profile in place. They all undertake a two week induction programme in line with the Common Induction Standards. NVQ is also ongoing at various levels. Quality audits of the service are undertaken and surveys are sent to residents, relatives, health care professionals and other people with an interest in the service. Feedback is analysed and acted upon. Other quality assurance systems include residents meeting, relatives meetings twice a year, a suggestion box, comments book on each unit, audits of catering, medication audits, reviews of care and housekeeping checks. The AQAA describe in length the measures taken to promote the health, safety and welfare of the residents and the staff. Health and safety policy documents are in place and all staff are instructed in health and safety policies and procedures. Accidents and incidents are recorded and reported in accordance with legislation. The home is well managed by a competent manager and a dedicated team of senior qualified staff. The home continues to inform The Care Quality Commission of any relevant evens that have occurred since the last inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with The Care Quality Commission and have shown that their service continues to provide good outcomes for people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 26th November 2101.
