What the care home does well The last person admitted to the home from outside the organisation was thoroughly assessed before they were offered a service. Two staff have recently completed an activity co-ordinators course at a local college. They are now taking responsibility for arranging activities around the home and completing assessments/reviews of activities that people complete to enable improvements to be implemented as required. People were seen to be leading active lives in and outside the home. Staff complete comprehensive notes each day that detail what people have been doing and what they have eaten. This makes it easy to review. Ribston house is a property specially built to meet a range of physical needs that people may display. At the time of this site visit people were in the process of choosing different colours they would their bedrooms and communal areas painted. Our tour of the premises showed that it is mantained to a high standard and a soft room has been created since we last visited. To the rear of the property is a garden that is accessible by wheelchair users. The acting manager stated they are planning on creating raised flowerbeds to enable wheelchair users to create flowerbeds indpendently. The home`s recruitment procedures are robust and the records we examined showed that people are not being put at unnecessary risks. We examined accident records dating back to when the home opened last year, no shortfalls were identified. What the care home could do better: When examning one person`s care package we found it contained a range of plans to address the person`s needs. Unfortunately we were unable to find evidence of the plans being reviewed since the person was admitted. This makes it difficult to confirm that the person`s needs were still being met. It becomes a requirement of this report that themanager ensures that all care plans are dated and reviewed regularly. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: We arrived at 0900hrs on Wednesday 23rd June to complete this unannounced random inspection. On arrival we were shown to the managers office where we found the acting manager of the home and the general manager for the organisation. We explained that this was a focused random inspection where we would be examining the following areas: - The admission process for the last two people admitted to the home, controlled medication administration and storage, recruitment records for the last two staff employed, accident book records and we would complete a tour of the premises. During this visit we witnessed staff supporting people to go about their day to day lives helping them with their personal care, preparing food, going out and taking part in a music session in house. Whilst in the home we took the opportunity to speak with one of the people living there. As a focused random inspection we did not assess the homes progress towards meeting the requirements of the previous inspection.
