What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included :The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the agency has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months.Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the agency is still providing an excellent service. They continue to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they show that they have managed issues well. They are focussed on improvement and development both in the outcomes for the people who use the service and how it is managed and delivered. The AQAA tells us this is a service that listens to the views of people using the service. They do this by holding quarterly residents and relatives meetings and two monthly coffee mornings for the registered manager to attend with the residents. These are all minuted. In addition there are individual six monthly care plan reviews with service users and their representatives. There is a Quality Survey completed twice a year and annual customer service survey for residents and families.Changes made as a result of listening to people include a a coffee morning that is held every 6-8 weeks ly coffee mornings with the residents of the home and the registered manager, the home involve residents with the Barchester in Bloom competition to enter the hanging baskets and some residents visit a Garden Centre to buy the plants and then pot them. The home ensures the equality and diversity of people using the service by ensuring the recruitment and selection policies and procedures result in no job applicant receiving less favourable treatment on grounds of race, colour,, nationality, religion or sexual orientation, make appropriate provision for service users to practice their religion, as they would wish by involving the churches various denominations within the home; the home holds church services every two weeks, and the Roman Catholic and Church of England priests bring Holy Communion to individual residents as required or requested; involve the residents in planning Activities, and menu planning; ensure Service Users continue to enjoy their civil rights such as their wish to participate in elections and individual service user care plans are developed and reviewed in conjunction with the service user and or their advocates. The AQAA tells us that the home has dealth with eighteen complaints in the last twelve months and four of these were upheld. All complaoints were dealt with within twenty eight days. The Care Quality Commission has received one complaints in respect of this service in the previous twelve months. This has been ddealt with effectively and in a timely manner. The AQAA indicates that the home has had no safeguarding of vulnerable adults referrals in the last 12 months and the completed Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 AQAA informs us that they have a whistleblowing policy to encourage open reporting of serious malpractice within the organisation. The AQAA outlines that nurses employed by the organisation are registered with the NMC and have relevant qualifications and training for the field of practice they are assigned to. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 27th May 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
