Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. It was clear from the AQAA that action had been taken to address the requirements made in the last inspection report We received surveys from 13 residents and representatives. People are very happy with the care being provided at the home and know who to speak to if they have any worries. They feel that there are enough staff available to look after them and that the staff listen to and act on on what they say. Representatives are kept up to date with any issues and feel that their loved ones are being very well cared for and supported by staff at the home. Comments received included: St Vincents tries its very best to listen to what residents and their families would like with regards to their care and wellbeing. There have been lots of discussions about catering needs, appropriate types of wheelchair and day-to-day requirements and the results have, where possible, been implemented. A nursing home can never be quite the same as home, but St Vincents comes close. Personal care is superb. Cleanliness is absolute with attendants at all times. The staff are extremely friendly and understanding. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 A very happy Nursing Home with a variety of staff - efficient nursing and cleanliness standards, catering well for special needs. A variety of outings and activities. The professional way all the staff treat the residents is excellent. Atmosphere of calm and nothing is too much trouble. The home takes very good care of me and I am very happy and content here. Immaculate modern home. Attentive caring staff. Always comfortably warm in winter and not too hot in summer. Wonderful caring atmosphere. Activities within the home and trips out. Very well run with well chosen staff. We received surveys from 12 staff who clearly enjoy working at the home. The confirmed that they receive the training they need to provide them with the skills and knowledge to care for residents effectively. They find that the Manager is supportive and approachable. We received a survey from a healthcare professional who was satisfied with the care provision at the home. Comments received included: Lots of entertainment and outings for the residents. Very supportive management team to the staff. I find it to be the very best place Ive ever worked in. St Vincents teaches us to be a good team and support each other. Staff have good knowledge about nursing and caring. I feel very happy here. It meets the individual needs of the residents. Care is around the individual. First class care to both residents and staff. Great training facilities for all staff. Meets individual care needs in an excellent manner. Appropriate staffing level. St Vincents Nursing Home provides a high standard of care to all residents. It is well managed with a good training programme for all staff. Due consideration is given to the welfare of the staff. Lots of activities, entertainment and outings are arranged for the residents. There is a nice atmosphere and everybody is friendly and helpful. The matron is also very fair and easy to approach. Also training is very good. We have discussed the suggestions listed under the what could the home do better section of the surveys in general terms with the Manager, who was very receptive and it was clear that she had already identified the majority of the points herself, and was taken appropriate action to address them. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 1st October 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
