What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was comprehensive and clear and gave us good information about the services being provided. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. At the last inspection visit we found that the people living in the home were assessed to ensure that their needs could be met and care plans were in place. Care plans are reviewed at regular intervals with the involvement of the resident concerned. In the AQAA we were told that the home works closely with the resident, their family or representative, and health professionals to assess and identify the needs and expectations of each resident before admission. The home has a system in place to assess areas of risk. We were told that where a level of risk is identified, this is discussed with the resident and a plan compiled to reduce the risk without impairing the residents quality of life and personal fulfilment. We were told in the AQAA that St Wilfrids Priory offers a wide range of activities designed to encourage each resident to maintain their independence, mobility, and individuality. Staff encourage and enable residents to pursue their hobbies and interests and to widen these where possible, for example via our yearly Activity Holiday, where a sponsored resident and a nominated carer travel to an organised activity based holiday centre to try out and join in with others in such diverse activities as canoeing, archery, abseiling and horse riding/buggy driving. Residents are involved with the running of the home through residents meetings, newsletters and quality assurance questionnaires. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We were told in the AQAA that the home has thorough recruitment procedures and that staff receive the training they need to meet the needs of the people who live there. We were told that the home has seventeen permanent care staff and that fifteen have NVQ, (National Vocational Qualification) Level 2 or above. There has been one complaint received by the home in the last twelve months which was dealt with within the required timescales. There have been two Safeguarding Adults investigations in the last twelve months. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. The home works well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will not be changing our inspection plan and will carry out a key inspection before 25/02/2012. However we can visit the home at any time if we receive information that gives us cause for concern.
