Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The annual service review for Sunrise House included the following: An Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was sent to the home by The Care Quality Commission (CQC) and completed by the registered manager. The AQAA is a self assessment and dataset that must be completed annually by every registered provider. It is one of the main ways we gather information about the provision of care and how providers believe they are meeting the assessed needs of those using their service. The manager gave details about what has been achieved during the past 12 months and what she hopes to put in place during the next 12 months. We sent survey questionnaires to the 2 people that live in Sunrise House to ask their opinion about the care and support they received. We looked at information about how the manager dealt with any issues or complaints but there have been none received. We looked at the report that was written following the key inspection that took place in 2008. We looked at any notifications of events in the home sent to CQC since that last key inspection. What has this told us about the service? From the details outlined on the AQAA and information received from other sources we judge that this home continues to meet the National Minimum Standards (NMS) of the Care Standards Act. We received completed surveys from the 2 people who currently live in Sunrise House, both of which contained positive comments about the care and support provided. Comments included, I am looked after well and I like my food. I love going on holiday with Tom and Aida (providers) and the other resident. The food is very good and my bedroom is nice. I enjoy living here and having friends. Over the past 12 months the provider has improved the computer system in the home, which helps with record keeping. The home has continued to maintain a high level of care in warm and comfortable surroundings. Those living in the home have been encouraged to improve their community contacts on an individual basis as well as in a group situation. This helps to maintain independence. There has been more family contact and residents now help to prepare the day time snacks of their choice. Selfmedication with continual support has now been fully introduced and all outpatient appointments are met and actioned. As a further aid to independence, positive risk taking is now in place. Redecoration continues and there has been a new toilet installed on the ground floor. The central heating boiler has been replaced with a new and more efficient one. The management team have completed training in the Mental Capacity Act and the new Mental Health Act. Over the next 12 months the home will continue to review and strengthen the policies and procedures and update all relevant training. It is hoped that greater independence will be made possible through a careful care planning system and to work with the residents on what is the best way forward. The home hopes to maintain and build on what has been achieved through social outlets and activities. Environmental standards will be maintained throughout the year and the manager will access all the necessary training.
