What the care home does well The kitchen and laundry were checked to ensure that chemicals had been stored in compliance with the control of substances hazardous to health. All cupboards were locked and chemicals stored in a safe and orderly manner in order to protect residents and staffin the home. There was a visit by the Environmental Health Officer at the beginning of April and there were no requirements made. On the day of the visit the Fire safety Officer visited the home and made an inspection and he stated he was happy with the layout of the home and no recommendations were made. A lot of work has been completed in the home all the bathrooms have been changed to walk in bathrooms, which the residents prefer. The garden has been fenced off and is nicely laid out for the residents to enjoy, this is to be extended this year. The shower room is in the process of being refurbished. The dining room is to be refurbished this year and all new furniture will be purchased. The registered manager stated the residents do not like the present dining chairs and have informed him, of the type of chairs they prefer to sit on and are more comfortable. What the care home could do better: There were a couple of areas in the home that need attention and the manager said these areas would be attended to immediately. For example one bedroom had been recently decorated and the safety cover for the radiator had not been fitted back on, and in another bedroom the carpet was torn and needed a deep clean. The registered manager explained that the person occupying the room did not want the carpet replaced. However the manager said he would talk to the resident and the relatives, with a view to replacing the carpet. Random inspection report

It is owned and managed by The Association of Ukrainians
Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 8 Brief description of the care home in Great Britain and provides care and accommodation to up to thirty-two older people, some of whom may also have a physical disability and/or dementia. The accommodation is arranged over three floors and has a number of communal sitting rooms, a spacious dining room and a large kitchen located on the ground floor. There is an adapted shower room on the ground floor and adapted bathrooms on the ground and first floor, with a standard bathroom on the second floor. The first and second floor can be reached by staircase or passenger lift. There are 23 single bedrooms, 11 of which have en-suite facilities, and 4 twin bedrooms, 1 of which has en-suite facilities. Those rooms without en-suite have toilet and bathing facilities located nearby. The home has its own mini-bus and people carrier to access activities and amenities in the local community. The Statement of Purpose and Service User Guide had been recently updated and the document was being delivered in a nicely printed version for all residents and perspective new residents. Statements regarding the way in which residents were included in the running of the home and how their opinions and thoughts about their home were listened to at residents meetings and meetings with their key workers. This improved staff awareness of residents rights to choice and inclusion. The registered manager advised that the homes staff have attended Person Centred Planning training and Health Action plan training which assist staff to understand and work with a new style of care plans that have been introduced to the home, which support residents in a person centred way. Three care plans was sampled and there was evidence that the documentation had been reviewed and reflected the current needs of the individual. The care plans included up to date risk assessments and clear written guidelines for staff in order that they could provide consistent care and maintain the residents abilities. The storage of residents care plans are currently securely stored in the senior staff office space within the home. The staff training matrix sampled indicated that formal safeguarding vulnerable adults training had been attended by all staff. The registered manager advised that he had met with all staff and explained to them individually the homes safeguarding vulnerable adult policies and procedures and the Surrey multi agency procedures. There was evidence available within the home that the whistle blowing procedures were available for all staff to be aware of and take action if necessary. Each member of staff has regular one to one sessions with the manager or deputy manager. Safeguarding procedures were accessible to staff and details of these were displayed within the home. The registered manager advised that management had organised that all staff whether existing or newly appointed are provided with an induction pack and will be supported to undertake the induction programme. Records sampled evidenced that several staff had completed the dementia framework training and all other mandatory training and up dates to training is booked for staff to attend when necessary. A number of staff have completed the National Vocational Qualification level 2 and above in care. The management of the home have introduced a daily lunch menu, which is set out nicely in a bound leather folder and is situated on each table which residents can identify and are supported by staff to make informed choices about what they would like to eat. The homes menu offers choice and the registered manager advised that the homes staff have referred several residents to the local authority dietitian for additional nutrition and dietary advise.
