What did we do for this annual service review? The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from staff members. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We spoke with the registered provider and the acting manager by telephone. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What has this told us about the service? The agency sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA). We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the agency is still providing a good service. The AQAA gives some information about new activites for people living at the home and an increase in the numbers of staff who hold NVQ Level 2 and above. At the last key inspection on 9th December 2008 the home achieved a good quality rating. We made one requirement about ensuring that the staff team receive the mandatory training that they need and three recommendations about NVQ training and keeping staffing levels under review. The registered provider sent us updated information about mandatory training. The registered manager left the home in May 2009 and although the registered providers have advertised the post on numerous occasions they have not been able to find a suitable candidate for the post. The home has been run by an acting manager since that time. The registered provider informed us that the acting manager had agreed to take on the role permanently and an application to register would be submitted in the near future. We received six surveys from people living at the home who had completed the forms themselves. All the surveys were very positive about the home. One person commented that, It is a well organised and run establishment. The staff are all capable and efficient. I am very happy here. Another commented that, The home does well in all things. And, It is a lovely home with caring and kind staff. We received five surveys from support workers, which on the whole were very positive. One support worker commented that, The home does well at promoting independent living for the residents and it has a homely relaxed feel. The home regularly asks the residents for their views on the way things are run and if their needs are being fully met. I feel the home is a nice place to live and work. Another commented that, Staff are encouraged to progress with NVQ training. I am currently doing Level 3. We are Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 encouraged to keep all relevant training up to date. In areas in which the home could improve one support worker commented, Activities. They are always needing attention as residents get bored with what is on offer. We have received one safeguarding alert which was responded to appropriately. We have received no complaints or concerns about the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 8th December 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
