Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This includes: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. It had been completed by the manager of the service. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The AQAA indicated areas where improvements have been made in the past year and what further work they plan to do. Residents are encouraged to participate in decisions about the services provided at The Devonshire, through client questionnaires and six monthly residents meetings. The manager operates an open door policy which enable residents and their representatives to discuss the care provided, and they are involved in reviews of the care plans if they wish. Following the residents meeting in July 2009 a herb garden has been developed for the kitchen to use; a new labelling system has been introduced for laundry; additional activities have been provided, including seasonal themed days such as St Georges and St Patricks, and a number of residents are taking advantage of weekly massage and Reiki sessions. The home has plans to use a six week menu choice, and implement a volunteer network to support residents. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 There is ongoing maintenance and re-decoration throughout the home, with a new telephone system introduced since the previous ASR. The Commission has not received any complaints about the services provided by The Devonshire, and the home continues to monitor any concerns and adhere to the homes complaints and concerns procedures. Residents and staff surveys were sent to the home, four residents surveys were completed with assistance and 9 staff surveys were returned to the Commission. The residents responses were positive, staff are available and they receive the care and support they need, the comments inlcuded there are always activities to do and staff look after me. The only suggestion about improving the service was that there could be more choices at mealtimes. Staff surveys were equally positive, they feel they offer a good service, they work well as a team to meet the residents individual needs, that the entertainment is well organised and that the training offered by the home is good. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? There will be no change to the inspection plan, and will do a key unannounced inspection by 31st January 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
