Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: - The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. - Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. - Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. - What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. - The previous key inspection, completed 30/11/08. - Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for and indicated that the home is striving to improve the quality of the service. Some of the things that they said that they had improved included: We have enhanced communication resources and assistive technologies for individuals promoting greater Independence, We have made substantial changes to improve the environment of Garden House, making it more welcoming, and We have increased educational and social opportunities within Garden House to enable individuals to access a wider choice of lifestyle opportunities. We sent surveys to all of the people who live at the home and received ten surveys back. These surveys told us that people were generally happy with the standard of care. People told us they knew who to speak to if they were not happy. Some people were not able to complete the surveys themselves, and their relatives helped them. Comments included They look after me very well.., I love living at the Garden House, and My daughter has severe learning difficulties and so is not able to speak to say how she is. The only thing is that she is always happy and well cared for. We sent surveys to 20 care staff and received four surveys back. We were told that Garden House does well at providing holistic Care for individuals with complex needs, ensuring that their health and safety remain paramount, whilst enabling them to access social activities of their choice. We have received no concerns or complaints regarding this service. The information we received from the home in the form of the AQAA told us that the service had received complaints and that these had been dealt with in the appropriate time scale. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 29/11/10. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service of the safety of the people using the service.
